Packaging Method

Aluminum extrusions are easily bumped or scratched during transportation. This can lead to a decrease in product quality or damage to appearance. At CEX, we take the packaging of aluminum extrusions very seriously to ensure they are delivered in perfect condition. How we package:

  • 20 pieces per small bundle, multiple small bundles bundled into a large bundle
  • secure the bundles using stretch film, kraft paper, pearl cotton, or cardboard combined with plastic packing straps

The Production Flow of Aluminum Extrusion

Aluminum extrusion is a manufacturing process where aluminum billets are transformed into profiles with continuous cross-sectional shapes through the following steps:

Billet Preparation: aluminum billets are preheated to a temperature of around 400-500°C, making them soft enough for shaping without melting.

Extrusion Process: the softened billet is forced through a steel die under high pressure using a hydraulic press, shaping it into the desired profile.

Cooling: the extruded aluminum exits the die and is rapidly cooled, typically with air or water, to maintain its integrity and dimensional accuracy.

Stretching: the cooled extrusion is stretched to correct any distortions, ensuring it meets the specified dimensions.

Cutting: the extrusion is cut into standard or custom lengths as required.

Post-Treatment: the profiles undergo treatments such as aging, anodizing, or powder coating to enhance mechanical properties and surface finishes.

What is the Strongest Aluminum Profile Material?

7075 aluminum is considered one of the strongest aluminum alloys for aluminum profiles. With a tensile strength of up to 572 MPa and excellent fatigue resistance, it is ideal for aerospace structures, automotive frames, and military equipment.

The exceptional strength of 7075 aluminum profiles comes from their composition, which includes a high percentage of zinc along with small amounts of magnesium and copper. This unique alloy combination provides superior strength and hardness. However, 7075 has lower corrosion resistance compared to other alloys, so protective coatings or anodizing are often applied in corrosive environments.

Why Is Aluminum Suitable for Extrusion?

Aluminum is one of the most widely used materials for extrusion due to its unique combination of properties:

Malleability: aluminum’s ability to deform under pressure without cracking enables the creation of intricate and complex profiles.

Lightweight: with a density of about 2.7 g/cm³, aluminum extrusions are easy to handle, transport, and install.

Corrosion Resistance: aluminum naturally forms a protective oxide layer, ensuring long-lasting durability even in harsh environments.

Strength-to-Weight Ratio: aluminum provides sufficient strength for structural applications while remaining lightweight, making it a staple in industries like construction and automotive.

Thermal and Electrical Conductivity: aluminum’s high conductivity makes it ideal for heat sinks and electrical applications.

Recyclable: aluminum is 100% recyclable with no loss of quality, aligning with sustainable production practices.
